1790...The U.S. Supreme Court meets for the first time on Broad Street. However only three of the six justices show up, so court is recessed until the next day.
1917...The IRT subway line is extended to Ditmars Avenue in Astoria, Queens, resulting in a 20-minute trip from Times Square. The IRT would eventually be consolidated into the citywide subway system in 1940.
