1957...A sad day in Brooklyn as Dodger officials announce they have accepted an offer to move the team from New York to Los Angeles.
1961...Yankee pitcher Whitey Ford, facing Cincinnati, sets a World Series record by pitching 32 consecutive scoreless innings before departing in the sixth inning of Game 4 because of a toe injury.
1968...Franco Zeffirelli's film "Romeo and Juliet" opens in New York.
