Pope Francis gave the first general audience of his papacy in Vatican City.

Thousands of people gathered for the pontiff's meeting with journalists, media workers and their guests.

He spoke in an informal manner, making jokes and talking about the conclave that chose him as pope.

The Vatican also says that next Saturday, Pope Francis will visit Pope Emeritus Benedict at Castel Gandolfo, the first time a sitting pope has been able to visit his living predecessor in more than 600 years.

The pontiff will also visit this week with political leaders, including the president of his homeland of Argentina.

Pope Francis' installation will take place Tuesday, before visiting dignitaries including Vice President Joe Biden. NY1 will have live coverage of the service beginning at 4:30 a.m.
