Potential mayoral candidates took the stage at a Harlem church Wednesday to talk about education.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Comptroller John Liu, former Comptroller Bill Thompson, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and Michael Mulgrew, the president of the United Federation of Teachers, were all on hand.
They each got a chance to explain their vision of a better schools system in front of more than 1,200 parents, students and community members.
Speaking before the candidates, Pastor Michael Walrond, who heads up the church that hosted the event, said whoever is elected next year must have a clear plan for education improvement.
"If you want to be mayor of New York City, we're here to let you know that if you do not understand our voice, you will hear our votes come election time 2013," Walrond said.
The pastor also attacked Mayor Michael Bloomberg's education policies, calling them "12 years of failed leadership."
