NY Archdiocese Considers Closing 27 Catholic Schools In June

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York has released a list of its schools that are at risk of closure in June.
Twenty-six of its 159 elementary schools are at risk.
Six of those schools are in Manhattan: Annunciation, Holy Cross, Holy Name of Jesus, St. Gregory the Great, St. Joseph-St. James and St. Jude.
Eight are in the Bronx: Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Angels, Our Lady of Mercy, St. Jerome, Blessed Sacrament, St. Anthony, St. Mary and St. Mary Star of the Sea.
St. Agnes Boys High School in Manhattan is the only high school in the archdiocese at risk of closure.
More than 5,000 students in nine counties could be affected if the schools shut down.
Pastors and principals at the schools will now meet with local leaders before making final decisions in January.
