Hugh Carey Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel To Fully Reopen Monday Morning
Updated: 11/18/2012 12:18 PM
By: NY1 News

For the first time since Hurricane Sandy, both tubes of the Hugh Carey Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel will be open to traffic at 6 a.m. Monday, just in time for the morning commute.

Once the tunnel reopens, cars and buses will be able to travel in both directions around the clock, but trucks are still barred until further notice.

The tunnel had partially reopened last week, after it was flooded by the storm.

Crews had to work to pump out nearly a mile of water from its 9,000-feet length.

Officials say sea water damaged the tunnel's electrical and lighting systems, along with its communications, surveillance and ventilation systems.
