New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has decided to have surgery to repair his fractured left ankle.
Jeter was injured while going after a ground ball in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers.
The team says the procedure will be performed Saturday in Charlotte, N.C.
A complete recovery is expected to take four to five months.
The Yankees hope to have Jeter back in time for the start of spring training.
