Disgraced former New York City Police Department Commissioner Bernard Kerik appeared in a Bronx courtroom Monday to take the stand in the perjury trial of two of his friends.
Kerik testified for hours in the case against Peter and Frank Ditommaso.
Prosecutors say the two brothers did lavish renovations on Kerik's Bronx apartment and then lied about it to a grand jury.
Kerik says he only paid the brothers $30,000 to make his apartment "liveable and affordable."
Prosecutors are trying to prove the brothers may have done extra work for free as part of a political favor.
Kerik pleaded guilty in 2010 to filing false tax returns on those renovations and eight other felonies.
He also admitted to lying to the White House in his application for Homeland Security Secretary.
Kerik is currently serving four years in a federal prison for those charges.
