A complete-game effort from CC Sabathia led the Yankees to a 3-1 win over the Orioles in the decisive Game 5 of the American League Division Series Friday night.

Sabathia allowed one run on four hits over the nine innings he pitched. He walked two and struck out nine.

The Yankees took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Mark Teixeira led off the inning with a single off Orioles starter Jason Hammel. He then stole second base before Raul Ibanez drove him in with a single.

The Yankees added a run in the sixth on a one-out double by Ichiro Suzuki that drove in Derek Jeter, who reached on a walk.

Curtis Granderson hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.

The Orioles got their lone run in the top of the eighth inning. Matt Wieters led off with a single and Manny Machado followed with a walk. After Mark Reynolds struck out, Lew Ford singled to left, driving in Wieters. An infield single by Robert Andino would load the bases but Sabathia struck out Nate McLouth and got J.J. Hardy to ground out to shortstop to end the threat.

A video review was required by the umpires in the top of the sixth inning after McLouth hit a fly ball down the right field line that was ruled foul on the field. The umpires reviewed the replay and upheld the foul ball call. McLouth then struck out to end the inning.

The Yankees move on to face the Detroit Tigers in the American League Championship Series. Game 1 of that series will take place Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Andy Pettitte will start for the Yankees.
