Motorcyclists in Kew Gardens, Queens gathered at Queens Borough Hall on Thursday to say there is nowhere to safely attach muni-meter receipts on their bikes and to push for free parking.

They claimed the parking papers were getting ruined by rain, blown away by the wind or even stolen, which leads to parking tickets.

"We're just asking for a level of equality,” said John Cartier of the American Brotherhood Motorcycle Club. “An even playing field, so that we can park our bikes and not worry about getting a ticket.”

"It's obnoxious, because it's not like anybody has, I mean I suppose somebody has the time to fight it, you know, but how do you prove it without the ticket?" said Monica Garcia of the Harley Owners Group.

"They just stop fighting it because it's not worth the time to take a day off or what they need to do to fight these tickets,” said Queens City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. “So it's really not fair, there's not really a way for them to obey the law."

"I've asked many people from all levels of the administration what a motorcyclist is supposed to do,” said State Assemblyman Michael DenDekker. “And I've been told, 'we haven't made that determination yet.’”

The Department of Transportation's website suggests that motorcyclists purchase and attach a container for muni-meter receipts to their bikes. However, it does not say where or how to purchase the containers.
