Report: Lights At Some Intersections With Red Light Cameras Change Too Fast
Updated: 10/08/2012 11:35 AM
By: NY1 News

Some of the city's red light traffic cameras may be too quick to catch drivers.

According to an Analysis by Triple A and the New York Post, some intersections with red light cameras give drivers as little as 2.5 seconds to make it through a yellow light.

Federal guidelines mandate at least one second for every 10 miles per hour of the speed limit or three seconds at a typical 30-miles-per-hour city intersection.

Triple A said the intersections don't get drivers enough time to get through the intersection safely.

A City Hall spokesman tells the Post the goal of the red light cameras is to keep the streets safe, not to raise revenue.
