Arrest Made In Connection With Vandalism Of Anti-Jihad Subway Ads

Police made an arrest Tuesday in the vandalism of some controversial ads in the subway.

Mona Eltahawy faces multiple charges, including criminal mischief.

She is a Harlem-based columnist who writes on Muslim and Arab issues.

The vandalism happened hours after the ads debuted in 10 stations in Manhattan on Monday.

The ads call enemies of Israel "savages."

Several were plastered with stickers that say "hate speech" and "racist."

The American Freedom Defense Initiative won a court battle in July to have the ads posted, claiming they speak out against extremists and not Islam.

The MTA says it is trying to replace the ads as quickly as possible.
