The Department of Transportation said Tuesday that it is exploring other locations beyond a proposed Greyhound bus stop near Seward Park on the Lower East Side.

The DOT says it will "continue to review this and other potential bus stops locations in coordination with the community."

State Sen. Daniel Squadron, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Assemblyman Margaret Chin put out a joint release Tuesday praising the DOT's decision "not to move forward with the bus stop currently approved at 3 Essex St."

The stop on Essex Street would have serviced Greyhound and Peter Pan bus companies going to Philadelphia.

Residents complained, saying there are already too many buses going through their neighborhood.

They were also concerned about a nearby playground in Seward Park.

Greyhound previously said passengers wouldn't have access to the park and crews would be on site to help.

Community Board 3 voted unanimously against the proposal earlier this month.

"We're very grateful for the DOT, who supported us," said Chuck Lin, who opposed the proposed bus stop. "We were quite worried that when they gave the permit for Greyhound to operate but in the end, I think we really need to thank our State Assemblyman, Councilwoman and our State Senator for really stepping up and helping us out."
