Sound Advice: Reviewing Weekly Concerts, Hometown Bands Perform

This week's "Sound Advice" report talks about several weekly gigs in the city as well as a hometown band's show at Radio City Music Hall. DJ Eric Holland filed the following report.
If you’ve seen a keyboard player really having his way with a Hammond B3 in NYC over the last few decades, there's a fair chance it was Mike LeDonne.
With finesse and dexterity, he’s played with the cream like Rollins and Gillespie and currently leads a quartet at Smoke on Tuesday evenings. A recent set is available on High Note Record’s Friendly Fire: Live at Smoke.
Another crucial weekly gig happens Monday's at Iridium with Les Paul's trio, joined this week by Levon Helm’s Dirt Farmer Band.
The five-piece from Woodstock, who accompanied Levon on the brilliant Dirt Farmer album five years ago, including Amy Helm and Larry Campbell, brought the roots to the city.
Around the corner at Radio City, Grizzly Bear played a triumphant hometown show celebrating the release of their new album "Shields." With at least one band member’s mother and another’s grandmother on hand, the quartet created rich soundscapes full of interesting, distinct parts.
More fellow New Yorkers are in action at The Beacon Wednesday. It’s night two for David Byrne and St. Vincent. Their pleasing new collaboration "Love This Giant" meshes their idiosyncrasies.
