NY1's weekly segment "Your Weekend Starts Now" shows entertaining picks for great things to do this weekend all around the city.


Side Street Lounge Benefit For Dave Valentin

First up, the Bronx hotspot Side Street Lounge will be grooving to the sounds of Latin jazz on Thursday night, as some well-known artists gather to honor Grammy Award-winning flautist Dave Valentin. The event will also serve as a fundraiser for Valentin, who suffered a stroke back in March. Suggested donation is $20.

Some of the country's best contemporary female artists are displaying their works in the National Association of Women Artists 123rd Annual Members Exhibition. The Manhattan show, featuring more than 200 pieces, runs through September 29 and admission is free.


"Sistas"

Set to the sounds of Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, Billie Holiday and more, the jukebox musical "Sistas," about five women celebrating family and the African-American experience, is currently heating up off-Broadway's St. Luke's Theatre. The show runs on Saturdays and Sundays at 4:30 p.m.


Linda Lavin At 54 Below

Fresh from her celebrated run as the matriarch in the Broadway play "The Lyons," Tony Award winner Linda Lavin will take to the cabaret stage at Broadway hotspot 54 Below on Sunday afternoon. Expect to hear tunes from Lavin's career and more.


Broadway Flea Market

Finally, sticking with the Great White Way, the 26th annual Broadway Flea Market will take place on Sunday in and around Shubert Alley starting at 10 a.m. Theater fans can buy everything from rare Playbills to walk-on roles in various Broadway shows. All money raised from the event will go towards the not-for-profit Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS.
