App Wrap: "Kinect Sesame Street TV," "Kinect Nat Geo TV"

NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment “App Wrap.” NY1’s Adam Balkin filed the following report.

Kinect Sesame Street TV

The song asks, "Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?" and the answer might be: through your Xbox 360, thanks to a new experience called "2-Way TV" from Microsoft for its Xbox Kinect system.

One of the titles for "2-Way TV," "Kinect Sesame Street TV," not only shares the great lessons Elmo and friends typically teach kids, but also shows how the lines between what is a TV show and what's a video game are about to seriously blur.

The "Kinect Sesame Street TV" game feels a lot like traditional Sesame Street episodes, because it uses actual content from the 42nd season of the iconic show.

The big difference is through the camera and microphone in Kinect, the player is inserted into certain scenes, and characters ask the gamer to help perform certain tasks like throw a ball or take pictures of things, basically putting the player into the show.

Kinect Nat Geo TV

The other 2-Way TV title, "Kinect Nat Geo TV," lets a player choose a type of animal to learn about and that again plays out just like an actual show, only there are questions and tasks to help complete along the way as the player spots so-called animal sidetracks.

Once the player finishes an episode, he or she can then virtually become the animal and perform a task the user just learned about. For example, a user as a grizzly bear can scratch rocks to release moths, in order to eat them.

A whole section of the game allows a user or a group of players to become animals at the same time to compete in mini-games, as the living room becomes a forest.

"Kinect Sesame Street TV" and "Kinect Nat Geo TV" are available now for $30 apiece.
