The Manhattan District Attorney's Office is getting a new cybercrime lab.
Members of the City Council said they're setting aside $4.2 million to build the lab.
They said it will allow computer forensic experts to work with specialized prosecutors under one roof at the DA's office in lower Manhattan.
Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr. said that's important because it allows prosecutors to catch criminals quickly, since criminals are able to adapt to changing technology.
"What you have to do is move as quickly as you can to develop your own counter technology and your own investigative techniques," he said. "This is an area where you are in a battle which is going to be a long term battle."
Prosecutors said the new lab is a must because nearly every case they handle involves a cyber component.
