Hundreds of Harlem children marched with their families Wednesday to protest violence in their community.
The 18th annual "Children’s March for Peace" aimed to denounce violence in Harlem and remember victims of violence.
In the wake of a string of incidents resulting in the injury or death of several children, Geoffrey Canada, the president and CEO of Harlem Children's Zone, which hosted the event, said the city must do something to restrict handguns.
"We have 11,000 children we work with and we have had a number of our children shot," Canada said. "We know even though the murder rate in New York City is lower than its ever been, even one kid murdered, even one kid killed destroys the peace in our communities."
Marchers ended up in front of the PAL Harlem Armory for a candlelight vigil.
