Former Mayor Ed Koch Backs Sick Pay Bill

Entering a fight over a controversial piece of legislation, NY1 Wise Guy former Mayor Ed Koch says he supports a bill that would require many local employers to give sick pay to their workers.

Speaking to NY1 Political Anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall”, Koch says: “While it is a burden to employers, I would start, I would exclude employers with 50 or less employees and I would work in for others, particularly the unorganized, where you don’t have collective bargaining agreements, which is most of the workers, I would work in, in the beginning, a four-day sick leave.”

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has, so far, refused to allow the council to vote on the legislation.

To see what NY1 Wise Guys Alfonse D’Amato and Eliot Spitzer think about this issue and more, watch “Inside City Hall” at 7 and 10 p.m.

We will also debut part two of Josh Robin’s special series, “Tangled Web: The Orthodox Jewish Struggle with the Internet.”
