The AP reports : “New York State is acquiring the biggest chunk of land in the Adirondacks in more than a century. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced on Sunday the acquisition of 69,000 acres that he said would preserve a significant portion of the upper Hudson River watershed.”

Sally Goldenberg writes: “Mayor Bloomberg is using a new national TV advertisement to demand that both presidential candidates lay out specific plans about combating illegal guns. In a chilling TV spot, aired during the Olympics and morning political talk shows yesterday, two victims wounded in the 2011 Tucson, Ariz., shootings warned that more than 48,000 Americans will be killed by guns during the next president’s term.”

In his column, Fred Dicker reports: “Gov. Cuomo and state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli are reviewing proposals for a “super control board’’ that could take over the finances of counties, cities and towns on the verge of bankruptcy, The Post has learned.”

Phil Messing writes: “The Port Authority has been warned that its high-tech emergency-response center — built to be used during disasters such as a terrorist attack — is “breaking down on a regular basis” after only a decade. The multimillion-dollar center is incapable of coordinating personnel for anything from a blizzard to a terror attack, Brian P. Lacey, director of the PA’s Office of Emergency Management, said in a warning to agency officials last week.”
