Lisa Marie Presley knows people will always be fascinated with her dad, but she believes she has finally created a music career that exists outside of her famous last name. NY1's Stephanie Simon filed the following report.

She's the daughter of the king of rock and roll and Lisa Marie Presley is sometimes called the Princess of rock and roll -- a moniker reflecting her bloodline more than her success as a recording artist thus far. Still, while in town for a recent concert at Gramercy Theater to promote her new album, Presley said she has come to terms with her father's towering legacy.

"I think that I just needed to find for myself that I could do my own thing and get my own following in my own way and I think I did that," Presley says. "I got a really nice core fan base that I developed with my music that kind of weeded out people that expected something else of me and I think I had to get that out of my system and I'm also just innately horribly rebellious so I will never do what people want, if just for that reason."

The rebellious singer/songwriter with model looks and a warm husky voice says the new music reflects her southern roots.

"It's sort of a stripped down, naked more comfortable place for me and voice to go. It's not contrived, it just happened," explains Presley.

The new album called "Storm and Grace" is Lisa Marie Presley's third. And while someone with her celebrity upbringing and tabloid history, including her marriages to Michael Jackson and actor Nicholas Cage, the mom of four is is not one to hide in the seclusion of the studio. In fact, she says her favorite part of the creative process is being on the road.

"I just like anything that's artistic that can move people and affect people. I think touring with me personally because I can have a real relationship with the listeners and the people who like the music so that's always fun," Presley says.

Lisa Marie is wrapping up this tour but is expected to hit the road again in the fall.
