NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment “App Wrap.” NY1’s Adam Balkin filed the following report.

HomeSnap
Whether you're genuinely interested in buying or are just being nosy, it's kind of fun to check out interesting houses, your friend's houses, maybe your enemies' houses and find out how much they're worth and what it looks like inside. Well now you have a new tool to do that.

Called HomeSnap, the app was created by Sawbuck Realty. You can take a picture of any home you see with it. After you take a photo, up pops much of the information you'd find if the home was on sale: its approximate value, square footage, number of rooms. Often times, photos of the inside are available. If a home is for sale, you can then instantly one click to get in touch with a realtor or request a showing.

Developers won't say exactly how it all works, admitting only that it relies primarily on GPS, as does some of your phone's other capabilities.

HomeSnap is right now only an iPhone app, though an Android version is in the works. The app is for free.

Warranty Hotel
Warranty Hotel is another app that finds a new use for the camera. It's designed to keep track of all the warranties on all the devices you've recently bought.

How it works in the U.S.: You first snap a picture of your receipt. Then, you put in the relevant warranty info and it all gets organized for you in one place.

In Europe, your receipt will have a QR code printed on it and all you'll have to do is scan it for the warranty info to instantly be stored in your warranty database. Developers are planning a similar feature for the U.S. app.

Once your warranties are in your database, if you do have a problem with a purchase, you can click on the warranty and the app offers up one-touch ways to instantly contact either the manufacturer or the appropriate repair service.

Warranty Hotel is only an Android app right now, but an iPhone app is in the works. It costs 99 cents.
