NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment “App Wrap.” NY1’s Adam Balkin filed the following report.

Touchnote Postcards

While on vacation you are likely taking pictures of everything you're seeing and doing. So why buy a postcard at the hotel gift shop to send home when you can very simply send your own postcard of yourself wherever you happen to be?

The Touchnote Postcards app allows you to take a picture or use one from your photo library. You can make adjustments to the color by drawing or typing a message on the shot. You then flip the card over in the app to write a message. You then address it to who you want to send it and can include a little map to show where it was taken if you want.

Once the postcard is complete, the service will send an actual paper postcard of what you've just created to whoever you've chosen to send it to for $1.50.

The Touchnote Postcards app is a free download for iOS and Android devices.

Pack the Bag

Before you head off on a trip, you may want to try out the Pack the Bag app to help make sure you don't forget things you'll need or want while away.

Basically, the app helps set up a packing checklist for you to make sure you grab everything you need before heading out the door.

First, you can click on all categories that may apply. Categories include if you're packing for kids, for a hiking trip or for a beach trip. You can also organize different essentials, such as medicines, that you may need. There are a couple dozen categories to choose from.

From there, the app will then give you lists of anything and everything you may want to bring based on the type of trip. For example, if you're going on a sailing trip, the app lists everything from boat shoes to binoculars. You, again, simply add everything you want to take and then when it comes time to pack you simply check stuff off to make sure you don't leave anything behind.

Pack the Back is right now an iOS only app and it is free.
