NY1 VIDEO: As NY1 News revisits its 20-year history, the station looks back at reporter John Schiumo's February 1999 story on the death of Matthew Dziergowski, a city police officer who was killed when a driver slammed into his patrol car on Staten Island's West Shore Expressway.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: Today, as they do every year, fellow officers, family members and friends hold a memorial service in Dziergowski's honor. He's also remembered every day at his family's Staten Island home, which is filled with mementos of his years on the force, helping to keep his memory alive both for his older son and for the now 12-year-old son he never met.
