Girl Scouts Learn Cable TV Basics In Brooklyn

Some girl scouts in Brooklyn have earned a new badge after learning how cable television works.

The scouts met with Time Warner Cable representatives in Greenpoint for a science lesson on how TV pictures are created, transmitted and received.

"When the girls first came in, I asked them 'Who likes math? Who likes science?' and very few of them raised their hand. It's our hope that when they leave, a lot more girls will think that science and math is cool," said Time Warner Cable Manager of Public Affairs Karen LaCava. "We're teaching geosynchronous orbit by having them spit Q-Tips into a bucket. It's really very hands-on and user-friendly."

Connect A Million Minds is an initiative created by NY1's parent company Time Warner Cable to encourage science, technology, engineering and math skills.
