Salsa legend Johnny Pacheco celebrated his 74th birthday with a concert at Town Hall Friday night alongside friends and family.
Pacheco, a renowned Latino bandleader, musician and composer, is credited with coining the term "salsa" for New York's version of Afro-Cuban music.
"I think Pacheco is one of the best musicians [who] made salsa go around the world. And I said to him in person I have a friend, a brother," said salsa singer Andy Montanez.
Proceeds from the event go to the Johnny Pacheco Scholarship Fund, which helps young musicians pay for college.
