The annual Time Out for Hunger campaign took place over the weekend, with 100 restaurants donating 10 percent of their proceeds to help the Food Bank of New York.

Council Speaker Christine Quinn says more restaurants jumped in to help this year.

"The thought that more businesses have stepped forward this year makes a huge statement about the restaurant industry," said the speaker. "They are part of the community. They want to give back to the city that has helped them."

"With every dollar donated, we can provide five meals," said Lucy Cabrera of the Food Bank of New York City. "So every dollar makes a difference."

The Food Bank estimates there are four-million New Yorkers who have trouble paying for food. The Time Out for Hunger campaign brought in more than 170,000 free meals last year.
