California's Supreme Court is hearing arguments today on the constitutionality of the state's highly-controversial Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage.
The measure was passed last year with 52 percent of the vote. It changed the state's constitution to counteract the court's decision that legalized same-sex marriage last May.
Last night, vigils were held in cities across the country – including here in New York.
Dozens gathered in Chelsea to support same-sex marriage and express solidarity with California.
The California Supreme Court has 90 days to issue a ruling.
