Two New Search Engines Help Funnel Money To Non-Profits

The ASPCA says their pups and kittens are living better thanks to people simply searching the internet. GoodSearch.com found a way to help non-profits make money at a time when many are struggling with the economy on the downswing.

“We started this organization because we knew there are so many people out there who want to support their favorite causes, but don't always have the time or the money to do so,” said JJ Ramberg of GoodSearch.com. “We wanted to turn something people do every single day into doing good. People search the internet so many times a day. Now just by searching the internet you can be supporting your favorite cause.”
GoodSearch.com and GoodShop.com are Yahoo powered search engines that funnel money to non-profits of your choosing.
Founder JJ Ramberg says she felt the sites would fill a much needed void.
GoodSearch is funded by advertisers and gives half of its revenues to charity one penny at a time whenever someone searches the site. It all adds up.
“Take a school or a non-profit that has a thousand supporters and people search in average four times on average a day — that will raise more than $14,000 a year without anyone spending a dime because the money comes from advertising,” says Ramberg. “If you go to GoodShop.com, say you have a thousand people and they all spend on average $500 within a year and on average 3 percent of that is donated to the cause, that will raise around $15,000 in a year.”
GoodShop is the newest venture. It's a shopping mall featuring hundreds of stores including Amazon, Apple, and Flowers.com to name a few.
The stores involved donate a percentage of each sale to the non-profit or school of the buyers choice.
More than 59,000 non-profits are on-board and 100 more are applying daily.
Because of their relationship with GoodSearch, the ASPCA has raised $15,000. That money can be used for many things like feeding 60 dogs for an entire year.
“We can feed almost 90 cats for an entire a year and the list goes on and on,” says ASPCA senior vice president Gail Buchwald. “So partnerships like this with non-profits are just a wonderful opportunity and we are really grateful to GoodSearch and we hope everybody will use it.”
Ramberg says that's the sort of change GoodSearch intends to continue making.
