New Yorkers are being asked to open their hearts and homes to cats who need a little extra TLC as part of I Love NYC Pets Month.

Cat rescue organization KittyKind is holding the city's first ever adoption event for cats with neurological and physical disabilities. They're educating pet lovers about what it takes to care for these furry friends.

"This is Gene Kelly. He's a six-year-old male cat, a sweet heart. He has long legs and that's why we named him Gene Kelly, the dancer,” said Hillary Harris of KittyKind. “He is diabetic, so if someone wanted to adopt him, we would show them how to use the insulin, because he has to get insulin twice a day and he does need a special kind of food."

"Thousands of animals they've helped — thousands of cats, old cats, disabled cats, young cats, they take them out of terrible, terrible situations and find them wonderful homes, and I'm so proud to be able to say that I have a couple of them,” said cat owner Jill Dosik.

The adoption will continue next weekend at the Union Square PETCO.
