Democratic Senator Loretta Weinberg and Republican Senator Henry McNamara have lifted their blocks on Molinelli's reappointment for his second term.
The state legislators exercised their senatorial courtesies in June to hold up Molinelli's reappointment. Weinberg says she lifted her block after meeting with the prosecutor Thursday night.
"I originally exercised senatorial courtesy based on some allegations that have been presented to me. I turned those over to the attorney general's office, which after many months of what I assume is appropriate review of those allegations came back to me this week and said they were unfounded," explained Weinberg.
Weinberg says her decision was also contingent on Molinelli promising to hire a new chief of detectives who does not hold outside jobs and someone who is not politically connected.
The Judiciary Committee still has to approve Molinelli's nomination.
The attorney general continues to investigate Molinelli for going on a trip to Italy with State Senator Joseph Coniglio -- who is under a federal corruption investigation.
