Thousands of streetlights across the city are going high-tech in an effort to protect against electrocutions.

The Department of Transportation will outfit more than 70,000 light poles in Brooklyn and Queens with LED detectors. The devices will glow brightly if the light poles become electrified.
The project will cost about $16 million.

The city is working on a deal to outfit another 80,000 light poles in Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island.

The new safety measures come after the 2004 death of Jodie Lane. Lane was electrocuted after stepping on a charged Con Ed street wiring box.
