Work at the Freedom Tower and hundreds of other construction sites remained at a standstill Monday after workers failed to show up following Saturday morning's strike deadline.
Contractors say they hope a deal will be reached with striking heavy equipment operators by Wednesday. However, no talks have been scheduled between the two parties.
As a result of the labor dispute, construction has been frozen at hundreds of projects around the city, because it will be impossible to continue without crane operators, pitch fork drivers, and other heavy equipment operators.
Union members say they're willing to consider interim deals to keep current construction projects like those at the World Trade Center site going.
Workers walked off the job over the weekend, delaying a number of construction projects around the city.
A contract deadline has also passed for the Teamsters, who deliver supplies to construction sites, and for underground workers known as sandhogs.
