Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he asked Gretchen Dykstra to remain with the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation before she resigned from her post four days ago.

Dykstra stepped down as president of the beleaguered foundation on Friday.
"She said she felt other people were trying to push her out and she was thinking about leaving and my advice to her was, don't," Bloomberg said. "Gretchen Dykstra used to work in our administration. She's a very competent woman."
Dykstra resigned on Friday amid concerns about the rising cost of the memorial.
She had faced criticism since revealing last month that the foundation had only raised $130 million for the project so far.
