Do you ever just want a day to yourself, a day when it’s ok to be pampered or a even a little self-centered? Well, one new place in Midtown is letting you do just that for a good cause.
“The Self Center is part spa/part retail space that we’ve opened for one month benefiting breast cancer awareness,” says Self Magazine Merchandising Editor Danielle Yuen.
That's right - in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Self Magazine has temporarily launched the Self Center, located at 40th Street and Fifth Avenue. Here, visitors can experience total well being.
Each day there's a list of free activities and seminars, free snacks and drinks at the cafŽ, and of course, luxurious spa services, some of which are offered at a discount.
“We are offering a few different types of services including 60-minute facials and also 60-minutes massages, which are normally $95, but we are offering it right now at a discount of $60 to help people be more aware of helping themselves and also to help to fight breast cancer,” says Maxine Weiss of Oasis Day Spa.
Ten percent of all spa services are being donated to the cause.
“I think it's a wonderful feeling anytime you can do something good for other people while you are doing something good for yourself,” says customer Natalie Bow.
Visitors can also buy exclusive items to help raise money for a cure.
The center also includes information on fashion footwear and accessories. And of course, let’s not forget a goodie bag for everyone who comes by.
“I think it’s great,” says customer Keren Sachs. “I walked in off the street, and it’s white and welcoming, and it’s exciting to see all these women here taking care of themselves and doing fun things.”
Organizers say they are hoping to raise at least $200,000 which will be distributed to several organizations.
Over the next month they are expecting to see a lot of foot traffic at the Self Center. To help document that, they are asking women to bare their soles, literally. Some visitors are being asked to leave behind a foot impression to be used as part of an art display.
After you leave your mark, guests are treated to complimentary mini-pedicures.
The Self Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. until October 21st. For information and a list of events you can go online to
www.self.com
, and to book a spa appointment you can call (212) 286-2878.
Even though the Self Center is only open during the month of October, the folks at Self hope its important message leaves a lasting impression.
