1953...Poet Dylan Thomas can "rage against the dying of the light" no more. He dies one week after collapsing in his room at the Chelsea Hotel.

1965...A massive power failure blacks out the city at the height of the evening rush. For hours New Yorkers are stranded in the dark, but they remain calm and cooperative during the ordeal.
