This week, NY1 News introduces the new NY1.com, an improved website that brings NY1 video-on-demand to the Internet.

The site had been redesigned to take advantage of Road Runner, Time Warner's new high-speed cable modem service. With a fast Internet connection and a powerful enough computer, users can watch full-screen NY1 video clips.

The Road Runner service was announced earlier this month at a Time Warner press conference.

The redesigned NY1 website makes use of Real Networks' free G2 Player to play video clips in the Real Media format. All NY1 video can be viewed at two rates: dial-up speed for users with telephone connections, and Road Runner speed, for Road Runner subscribers.

Video clips on the website can can be viewed by using either the "Choose Video" menu at the top of every page; the video links that accompany individual news stories; or the exclusive "News On Demand" tool, the Web's first custom newscast tool, which allows users to build their own newscast from stories currently airing on NY1 News.

Other new features on the site include a new search function, as well an an archive of previous NY1 News stories.

In addition to Road Runner's corporate partners, the NY1 site was programmed by Outlook Technologies of Chicago, with design by H2o Design of New York City and video automation by New York City's Igicom Inc.

The NY1 website staff welcomes your comments at ny1-webmaster@ny1.com.
