City Council members are throwing their support behind a plan to use traffic cameras to punish speeding drivers.
The legislation making its way through Albany would let the city test up to 40 cameras at dangerous intersections.
Speeding drivers would be fined up to $100.
Supporters include City Council Speaker and mayoral candidate Christine Quinn.
The council members say the legislation is needed in the wake of several incidents, including the deaths of a young couple and their newborn in Williamsburg.
