With his former aide now running for mayor, Rudolph Giuliani is making a fundraising push for Joseph Lhota.
In an email to Lhota supporters, Giuliani urged them to donate cash to help his former deputy mayor before Monday's campaign finance filing deadline.
It is the first such deadline Lhota has faced since declaring his intention to seek the Republican nomination.
The former mayor drew a sharp contrast between Lhota and the crowded Democratic field in the email.
"Make no mistake. If you don't think the city can slip back to its unmanageable, ungovernable ways, just listen to Joe's democratic opponents," the email read. "We must elect Joe as New York's next Mayor."
Lhota made headlines earlier this week when he defended his former boss after a moderator made derogatory comments about Giuliani during a Republican mayoral forum.
