An increase in cases of meningitis has the New York City Health Department advising more New Yorkers to get vaccinated.

All men with or without HIV who regularly have intimate contact with multiple male partners are now encouraged to get vaccinated.

Vaccinations are also recommended for all HIV-positive men who are sexually active.

Already this year, four new cases of meningitis have been reported involving men who had intimate contact with other men.

Three of the last five reported cases have been fatal.

Meningitis usually causes a fever, headache, stiff neck and rash within a few days of exposure.
