A new report claims Hurricane Sandy hit low-income renters in the city especially hard, and researchers say they are far less likely to have insurance coverage for their losses.

The housing advocacy group Enterprise Community Partners says that more than 150,000 city residents registered for FEMA aid after Hurricane Sandy.

The study says that more than 84,000 of them are renters, and 64 percent of those renters earn less than $30,000 a year.

More than 66,000 people who registered for aid are homeowners, and 30 percent of them earn less than $30,000 a year, according to the study.
