Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, a candidate for city comptroller was among several elected officials asking on Monday for the the Department of Transportation to conduct a study of East Harlem, where a six-year-old boy was hit by a truck last week.

On Thursday, Amar Diarrosova was walking to school when a tractor-trailer made a right turn at 117th Street and First Avenue.

The crossing guard at the intersection, 55-year-old Flavia Roman, was not at her post when he was hit.

Lawmakers said stricter safety rules and better enforcement could prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

"Are there conversations happening between DOT and NYPD to determine the placement of crossing guards and whether maybe some intersections merit two," said Manhattan-Bronx Councilwoman Melissa Mark-Viverito.

"There's a truck route on 116th Street, just a block away from here. Yet this area, this block, is not a truck route, meaning the truck that hit Amar should not have been here at this intersection," Stringer said.

The truck driver was ticketed for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Roman is suspended pending an investigation.
