Police said they found a dead body inside a drum-like container in a Manhattan apartment Saturday night.
The New York City Police Department said it was responding to a call of a foul odor at an apartment building on Seventh Avenue in Harlem Saturday night.
When they arrived, officers found a person inside a large container similar to an oil drum.
The person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors said the victim was a woman who lived in the apartment.
"When I came from downstairs, there was a lot of cops, police, yeah, a lot of police," said one neighbor. "They was asking people, 'Do they live here?' They wasn't letting people into the building. They was asking for IDs."
"This is crazy," said another neighbor. "I know the people in the building. I would never think this would happen. They were very nice people."
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
