A new report from the city's Independent Budget Office is looking closer at schools slated to be closed by the Department of Education.
Among the findings in the report were that many of the 26 schools serve an especially high percentage of special needs and low-income students.
It also found the percentage of high-needs students at the schools has increased in recent years.
Eight high schools, 17 elementary and middle schools and one school serving grades 6 through 12 are scheduled to have their doors shut.
