An East Harlem man is facing charges including rape, after police say he sexually attacked an elderly neighbor in an apartment building elevator on Tuesday.

Investigators say Angel Hernandez, 51, is responsible for the attack on a 74-year-old woman in the Lexington Avenue housing project.

A witness called police and responding officers say they found Hernandez in the elevator and placed him under arrest.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital.

Authorities say Hernandez has a criminal history, but no details were provided.
