Despite the cold temperatures outside, hundreds of rare flowers will be in full bloom this weekend in Manhattan.

More than 500 species of rare orchids and collectible plants are being shown during the "Blooms on Broadway: New York Botanical Expo" at Gotham Hall in Midtown.

The lineup includes orchids, African violets, rare tropical plants and other exotic blooms popular with collectors.

Vendors from as far as Japan and Ecuador will be showing off their buds.

"All of the orchids, except these orchids, grow for the flowers. But for these orchids, we see everything. From the leaves, root tips and the stems," said Satomi Kasahala, a vendor.

The event offers something for everyone from the casual gardener to the orchid enthusiasts to those who are just curious.

"We have all types of plants. The $5 African violet, which you grow on your kitchen window sill to the $4,000 fragmen pedium which grows on a stream in Peru to a beautiful neo phoenecia from Japan. We have vendors from all over the world," said Elle Ronis of "Blooms on Broadway."

"Especially creating hybrids and stuff when you see them bloom for the first time it's just, especially if you have something like the raven claws, the first time that this flower bloomed was just amazing," said John Leathers, a flower grower based in San Francisco.

The show runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
