If you feel like you're wasting more of your days stuck in traffic - you're right - and it's costing you time and money.

According to the national Urban Mobility Report, Americans collectively spent 5.5 billion more hours sitting in traffic congestion in 2011.

That's an average of 38 hours a year for each of us and 19 gallons of wasted fuel.

Researchers with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute analyzed driving patterns in hundreds of urban areas.

Clogged roads cost Americans about $121 billion, factoring in fuel and time.

New York's traffic is the fourth worst in the country after Washington, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

Drivers who spoke with NY1 say the city's ranking comes as no surprise.

"If I'm traveling anytime regular, you're sitting in traffic for three hours a day. So three hours a day to go 65, 70 mph just costs you that much more in gas," said one driver.

"For me Fridays are the worst days. It's very frustrating. It's a disaster," said another driver.

Boston, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia and Seattle round out the top 10 worst cities.
