A Torah scroll that police say was inside a car stolen over the weekend has been found.

Assemblyman Dov Hikind, praising the New York City Police Department, said in a statement that the Torah was found Monday.

Officials with the Congregation Agudath Sholom of Flatbush said a rabbi who uses space in their Synagogue was repairing the sacred document.

The rabbi parked his rental car outside the building, with the Torah in the trunk, and put the keys out of sight.

Synagogue officials believe the thief, who took money from charity boxes, may have found the keys.

Police said the Torah is worth approximately $30,000.
