As the number of flu cases keeps rising across the country, federal officials say it's still not too late to get a flu shot.

The Center for Disease Control says this year's flu season has been worse than average and started earlier than usual.

29 children have died so far this flu season, up from 34 during all of last year's flu season.

About 90 percent of flu deaths are in the elderly, but the very young are also at higher risk, along with people suffering other health problems, like diabetes.

The flu is widespread in all states but Tennessee and Hawaii.

Federal officials are encouraging people to stay home if they show symptoms of the flu.
