Hospitals affected by Hurricane Sandy are getting over $100 million in much-needed financial aid.

Senator Charles Schumer said the Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing the funds to Bellevue, Coney Island, Coler-Goldwater and Metropolitan Hospitals.

At both Coney Island and Bellevue, flood damage forced hundreds of patient evacuations and services remain limited.

The money is the first that the city's hospitals have received since the storm.

"This money does not go to pay a contractor, to fix a boiler," Schumer said. "The city has done that already. This reimburses the city. If we hadn't done it, guess who would've paid for it? The taxpayers. And taxes would've gone up."

It's estimated that $810 million will be needed to complete repairs and prevent future flooding.

Schumer said the $50 billion Hurricane Sandy aid package passed by the House would cover those costs.

It's expected to be voted on by the Senate next week.
